Competitive Club Trips

Proposed club trip to the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham to attend the

Inter Club Sprint Racing Regatta    6th - 7th September 2008

Who can go?

This event is open to all levels of paddlers.

Lightning paddlers compete in their appropriate class and age groups U12 boys and girls and U10 boys and girls.

K1 paddlers are ranked on ability and do not race in age groups.

What events can we do?

All classes race over two distances 500m and 1000m.  In addition to races in singles there are also crew boat races in K2 and K4 – there are Lightning versions of K2 and K4 available for borrowing.

How will we get there?

The intention is to travel by car, so we are looking for some parents who would be willing to come along as well.  If your parents are not available you may still be able to go as another car may have a space. We would travel down on Friday and return after racing on Sunday.

Where will we stay?

There is a campsite at the Watersports centre – this would be the cheapest option. There is also some accommodation at the centre or Travel Lodge type accommodation nearby.

How much will it cost?

The entry fees will be paid by the club. Transport costs will be shared between those travelling so it is difficult to put an exact figure on it until we know who is going and how many people are sharing each car.

Why should I go?

For those new to the sport it is great opportunity to find out a lot more about it and get a feel for just how many people and clubs are involved in Sprint Canoeing throughout Britain.  You might even meet an Olympic medallist – Tim Brabents is the current World and European Champion and therefore going to the Bejing Olympics in August with high hopes of bringing back a medal.

What now?

If you are interested in going or want to find out more speak to one of the coaches – Mrs K, Neil, Alan or Margaret.
